On March 14, the Cornell Law School Admissions team welcomed over 130 admitted students from the Class of 2028 for the first Admitted Student Day of the year. The annual event, which provides admitted students with a chance to learn more about the Law School and the curriculum, meet faculty and staff, tour the Law School, and participate in a mock class, saw record attendance.

“In my nine years of Admitted Student Days at Cornell Law, I have never seen one this well attended and with such high energy,” said Michael J Cummings, assistant dean of admissions. “It is a great reminder of our unique spot in Ithaca, New York, and how we are able to draw students from all over the globe to come here. Now we have to repeat this success for April!”

This first admitted student day included a unique group of students who hailed from five countries, twenty-six states, and the District of Columbia. They arrived with a diverse array of experiences and backgrounds, having studied at over eighty-four undergraduate institutions in more than forty different academic majors.

“In light of an extremely competitive law school admissions cycle, this year’s group of admitted students represents the best and brightest from all over the world,” said Shane Cooper, senior associate dean for admissions, financial aid, and student services. “We were so excited to see the entire Law School community come together to extend a warm welcome to our admitted students. The level of enthusiasm and the outpouring of volunteers from our current students and community members were extremely gratifying to see, and I received many thanks from our admitted students who appreciated the support from the Law School community.”

The day began with breakfast and networking in the Landis Gallery, followed by introductions from Assistant Dean Cummings and Senior Associate Dean Cooper. Throughout the day, admitted students were able to hear from various deans and professors, meet with current students, tour the school, and even participate in a mock class with Professor Michael Heise. The day also happened to fall on “Pi Day,” so students were treated to the annual pie-eating competition among professors before they finished the day at the Myron Taylor Mixer.

During lunch, at Willard Straight Hall, Jens David Ohlin, Allan R. Tessler Dean and Professor of Law, gave a stirring speech about the challenges of law school, and the legal landscape of today’s world, but also provided potential future students with reassurance that Cornell is a top law school in the nation, providing each and every one of its students with the necessary tools and knowledge to enter the professional legal world well prepared and roaring with confidence.

The second and final Admitted Student Day event of the year will take place on April 11.
