Biography
Edward McArdle is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the Center for Bioethics at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He is also an ethics consultant on the hospital’s ethics consultation service and teaches medical ethics to medical and health professions students.
Before joining SUNY Upstate, he served for many years as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the New York State Attorney General representing state agencies in litigation, including representing SUNY’s University Hospital in a wide variety of legal matters related to patient treatment disputes, guardianship and safe discharge.
At Cornell, Mr. McArdle teaches a class on the powers and duties of the office of state attorney general in the United States. He also teaches a class on hospital mediation of ethical dilemmas in clinical health care. His research interests include medical treatment decision making at the end of life, dispute resolution in hospital settings, disability rights and patient advocacy.
